Maxillara hedwigiae is found in the low montane forests of Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama and Colombia at elevations of 0 to 750 meters.

Maxillaria hedwigiae are typically winter/spring bloomers.
